Last-minute plans, whether for 20 or just for 2, can be very tricky, especially when dealing with food allergies. This is why I have compiled for you a list of safe dishes for a delicious and enjoyable last-minute allergy-free Thanksgiving dinner.

Wait! How can you possibly forget about Thanksgiving?
Since we didn’t grow up in the U.S. and don’t have any children or family around, it is easy for us to get caught up in other personal and professional commitments and not see this Holiday coming. This is exactly what happened this year.
In addition, Thanksgiving usually falls on my birthday week, so I tend to make birthday plans before turkey plans. 🙂
Ok, I get it. So how can I keep my guests and myself safe at Thanksgiving?
First of all, it is important to remember that an “allergy-free Thanksgiving dinner” (or any “allergy-free” or “allergy-friendly” meal for that matter) will never be fully free of allergens.
Allergens come in very different types and shapes, and one can be allergic to anything. “Allergy-friendly” or “allergy-free” only means that your dish does not contain any of the 8 most common allergens.
So, before planning your meal, you need to make sure you know which food allergies and sensitivities you need to cook for. If you need to cover a corn allergy or a legume allergy, then some of these recipes might not be work for you.
Do you have a good turkey recipe?
We eat vegan most of the time, and turkey in itself is rarely a cause of allergies. What makes Thanksgiving dinners dangerous for people who suffer from food allergies is mostly what goes into the sides, pies, and gravy!
What if I don’t want to cook?
If you prefer not to cook and suffer from food allergies, then find some good friends to host you and share this post with them, to make sure there will be something safe for you to eat.
If you eat dairy-free and egg-free, you can also order the vegan Thanksgiving dinner from Whole Foods. Most of the proposed dishes do contain nuts and/or gluten. So, if you have additional allergies or sensitivities, take a look at the nutritional information of each dish and find out which allergen(s) they might contain before ordering.

- Roasted Pumpkin Seeds (1.5 hours)
Allergy-Friendly Main Dishes
If case you do not eat turkey, here are some delicious main dish alternatives.
- Baked Stuffed Butternut Squash (1 hour and 40 minutes)
- Sweet Potato & Quinoa Chili (50 minutes)
- Whole Roasted Cauliflower with gravy the original recipe uses soy sauce. To keep it TOP 8 free, I use a little bit over 1/8 cup of balsamic vinegar instead (1 hour 45 minutes)
- Confetti Corn by Barefoot Contessa. I brought it to my friends’ Friendsgiving dinner 2 years ago, and it was light and delicious. I used vegan butter instead of regular butter to keep it dairy-free. (20 minutes)
- Crispy Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Herbes de Provence (45 minutes)
- Vegan Mashed Potatoes (6 ingredients – 40 minutes)
- Cranberry Sauce This is a great, quick, and easy recipe. You can use the type of sugar that works best for you and your dietary restrictions. (11 minutes)
- Green Bean Casserole This recipe is originally vegan and soy-free. I use it as a base and use a plant-based milk and gluten-free all-purpose flour to make sure it is TOP 8 free. (30 minutes)
- Slow Cooker Apple Cider I am oral allergy syndrome and cannot have raw apples. This is fully safe and so delicious. I love making this recipe. (4 hours)
- Sweet Tea I always use less sugar, and usually prefer agave nectar to white sugar. I would advise that you start with 1/2 cup of sugar and then add sugar to taste. (3 hours – mostly wait time)
